About Guatemala
Guatemala has one of the highest child mortality rates in Latin America. One of the primary causes of children's death is constant diarrheas directly tied to poor water quality and sanitation. The United States is the country's largest trading partner, providing 36.5% of Guatemala's imports and receiving 40.7% of its exports. 51% of the Guatemalan population lives on less than $2 a day and 15% live on less than $1 a day. Violent criminal activity continues to be a problem in Guatemala, including murder, rape, and armed assaults against persons of all nationalities.
